Something so small with such a large impact. The hashtag has become a key feature of almost every social media platform but is used heavily on Instagram.

The hashtag allows you to tag your images with keywords and those images are searchable to everyone on Instagram who searches for that word. This makes your content easier to find, helps you attract new followers, and engage with others on this platform.

You can use multiple hashtags in one post and should separate them with a space, not commas or periods.

Important: make sure you are using hashtags with a high number of posts. While #write has 5 million posts on Instagram, #writersofinstagram has over 24 million. Using hashtags with a higher post count will help you engage a wider audience.

Spacing on Instagram can be tough! I’m sure you’ve seen it – captions on photos that are hard to read, all posted as one paragraph with a ton of hashtags, and all with no spacing. Instagram has made creating a visually appealing, easy to read caption tough, but it is not impossible.

To create spaces in your Instagram caption write it out first (in the notes app on your phone or somewhere you can copy and paste from). When writing the caption and including spaces here is the key – make sure there is no spacing between your last punctuation mark on the paragraph before pressing enter to create a new one. The spacing when you enter for a new paragraph must also be a double space. Once you have written out the caption, copy, paste and post to Instagram.

In week one of our tips we talked about Facebook stories. We are back again to talk about Instagram stories. These stories are a great way to share content you don’t want to stay on your feed forever, as they disappear after 24 hours.

Instagram stories is also a great place to share and highlight new posts that you want people to check out. You can share your posts to your story and the post then becomes a link to your profile and the posted image.

If your Instagram and Facebook are connected you can also share the Instagram story directly to Facebook, connecting those two platforms for an even greater audience reach!

IGTV is a newer aspect of the Instagram platform. The addition of IGTV has changed the game when it comes to posting longer content on Instagram. In the past only 60 second clips have been allowed on Instagram. However, with IGTV you can post clips up to 60 minutes long, still share a clip of that in your profile, and the video does not disappear.

Do you have longer video content that you’d like to share on Instagram? Give it a try. Tag @wadestoneinc in your video. We’d love to see your content!

Did you know that Instagram search includes keyword searches and hashtag searches in your Instagram bio as well? It is so important that your Instagram bio clearly tells people who you are and what you do but it should not stop there.

When completing your Instagram bio make sure you are using major keywords that would come up in a search when someone is looking for profiles similar to yours. You can also now use hashtags in your Instagram bio, making it even easier for people to find you when searching across Instagram.
