LinkedIn Tips to Grow Your Social Media Like a Pro

I know we have talked about this in multiple weeks of our social media tips, but your profile truly does matter. LinkedIn is not different, and on this platform, it might even be more important that your profile is updated and reflects who you are in the most accurate way possible.

Make sure that you are updating your relevant experience, your bio, your skills and endorsements, and your location and contact info. All of this will be used to help like-minded connections find your across LinkedIn.

Do a check-in of your LinkedIn profile and get it up to date if you haven’t done an update in a while.

Did you know when connecting with someone on LinkedIn that you can send more than just the generic connection invite? Personalized connection invites are a great way to introduce yourself to your new connection and start the virtual relationship off on a great foot.

Follow these steps below to personalize your invitations:

  1. Navigate to the profile of the member you'd like to connect with.

  2. Click the Connect button located in the introduction card.

  3. Click Add a note.

  4. Add your personalized message in the text field.

  5. Click Send invitation.

LinkedIn Connections are a helpful tool when networking and introducing yourself to a wider audience in your field. Did you know that you can export your LinkedIn Connections to a spreadsheet to use as well?
Follow these steps:

  1. Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.

  2. Select Settings & Privacy from the dropdown.

  3. Click the Privacy tab at the top of the page.

  4. Under the How LinkedIn uses your data section, click Change next to Download you data

  5. You’ll be redirected to the Download your data page where you can select Connections.

  6. You'll receive an email to your Primary Email address which will include a link where you can download your list of connections.

No connection on LinkedIn is really a bad connection. As we talked about yesterday connections are a great networking tool in the world of social media.

However, as you think about connecting with new individuals on LinkedIn make sure you are also connecting with like-minded individuals and those who are working with in your industry. Want to publish that book? Connect with individuals who have gone before you in publishing their own work and/or publishing house executives. Are you the leader of a non-profit? Connect with leaders of other non-profits and potential donors.

As we have mentioned before a well filled out LinkedIn profile is important. But what does it truly take to get your profile noticed when there are hundreds of other individuals who may list similar experience or skills as you?
 

Avoid Buzzwords


When filling out your profile make sure you are avoiding those key buzzwords that everyone uses on their profiles.

Replace a word like focused with words like immersed, engaged, or fixated. Instead of using the word specialized try words like definitive, distinguished or niche.
